I started building the ME-16 a few years ago. Every guitar I build is an original design, but the ME-16 gives more than just a passing nod to the Gibson L series of the 1920's and 30's. Specifically, I had the Gibson L-2 in mind when I started working on the ME-16. At 14 1/4" across the lower bout, I built the ME-16 for people who want the sound of a full size guitar and comfort of a smaller instument. The ME-16 is a full 40" long and the neck is joined at the 14th fret ( like the L-2 ). The width of the guitar at the tail is 4 1/2", as wide as many larger guitars, so the ME-16's volume is comparable with the jumbos.
